Music lessons happen once a week.
The progress happens in between.
I put together six small ideas you can try during practice with your child.
Each day introduces a different way to make practice a little more focused, playful, or independent.
A different way to think about what you're trying to accomplish during practice
A small experiment in breaking down a tricky passage
An idea for giving your child a little more ownership
A way to make repetition a little less repetitive
A reminder that the clock isn't always the best measure of practice
An experiment in stepping back
I'm Greg. I'm a Juilliard graduate, professional musician, and teacher.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about what makes practice actually work for kids, both as a musician and as a teacher. This little series grew out of those ideas.
I hope you find something useful in it.
